Mortgage rates eased to 7.41 percent on Wednesday as US Treasury yields steadied, according to Mortgage Professional America and Hindustan Times. Investors held back ahead of fresh labor market data and the Federal Reserve policy meeting scheduled for October 28. Mortgage Professional America reported that energy shocks have kept bond markets on edge. [1][5][6]

The benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield dipped less than one basis point to 5.113 percent, Mortgage Professional America reported. The 2-year Treasury note yield climbed one basis point to 4.797 percent, while the 30-year Treasury bond yield slipped one basis point to 5.415 percent. A basis point represents 0.01 percent in yield movement. [1]

The stability in benchmark yields follows ongoing pressure on national borrowing costs. As FTMQ Real Estate reported earlier, 10-year Treasury yields have remained above five percent after total United States national debt crossed 40 trillion dollars. In recent television comments, David Zervos of the US Treasury pushed back against fiscal warnings issued by the International Monetary Fund. [1][11]

Brokers and investors continue to monitor economic data release schedules ahead of the upcoming central bank decision. Reuters reported that nearly all surveyed economists expect the Federal Reserve to pause rate adjustments at its October meeting before implementing another rate increase in December. [1][4][5][6]
