A 1955 mid-century modern home designed by architect John Lautner in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles has listed for $2.1 million, Realtor.com reported. Known as the Rosemary and Joseph Baldwin Residence, the property has had only one owner since it was constructed. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house spans 1,679 square feet and sits in a wooded hillside setting. [1]
Realtor.com reported that the residential structure features original mid-century details and retains its original condition with very few updates. Lautner engineered the building by balancing it on posts anchored by shear walls to create a floating appearance. The layout includes floor-to-ceiling glass, skylights, redwood-plank siding, and a wraparound deck offering views of the surrounding hills. [1]
Lautner was an American architect who established his own practice in 1938 after serving an apprenticeship with Frank Lloyd Wright and the Taliesin Fellowship during the mid-1930s. He practiced predominantly in California, focusing largely on residential architecture. Lautner contributed to the Googie style and designed several Atomic Age structures in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including the Leonard Malin House, the Paul Sheats House, and the Russ Garcia House.
