Zillow has removed climate risk scores from more than one million property listings after real estate agents complained that the feature was causing lost sales, TechCrunch PropTech reported. The decision follows objections raised by the California Regional Multiple Listing Service. [1]

According to TechCrunch PropTech, Zillow initially added the environmental data to its platform in September 2024. The company previously noted that more than 80 percent of buyers consider climate risks when selecting a property. [1]

The removed risk scores were provided by First Street, a climate risk analytics startup. TechCrunch PropTech reported that Zillow has replaced the prominent scores with a subtle link directing users to First Street records. [1]

Rich Barton, Lloyd Frink, and Spencer Rascoff founded Zillow in December 2004. The platform was established to provide consumers with direct access to public property data traditionally controlled by real estate brokers. [3]
