The recently launched Open Real Estate initiative has prompted questions regarding governance and operational rules across the residential real estate sector. HousingWire reported that Hoby Hanna, chief executive officer of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, stated founders of the project have since reached out to him to discuss participation. Hanna said he wants clarity on governance, funding, and end goals before committing his brokerage to the platform. [1]

RISMedia reported that the founding entities of Open Real Estate include AGNT, which comprises eXp and NextHome, alongside HomeServices of America, Real REMAX Group, and Keller Williams. According to HousingWire Agent, the national listing sharing effort includes a mandate requiring participants to submit a property listing to the Open Real Estate database within one business day of signing a listing agreement. RealEstateNews.com noted that the platform is open to all industry participants but does not permit private listings. [2][3][4]

Multiple multiple listing service executives have expressed varied perspectives on the launch. HousingWire Agent reported that leaders at Bright MLS and Northstar MLS highlighted the potential for market modernization, while SDMLS raised concerns regarding adoption hurdles and data sets. RISMedia added that several MLS leaders remain optimistic that the effort could function as an interconnecting layer across systems. [3][4]
